Summary

- Engaged in failure analysis at the FATP facility during the NPI process for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, focusing on the Right Button's issues.
- Conducted comprehensive experiments to identify the root cause and proposed vendor-side solutions based on quantitative analysis.
- Collaborated with vendors, internal teams, and FATP engineers to validate issues and solutions' effectiveness.
- Additionally, supported the design of the next-generation button, resulting in the successful delivery of part drawings for design evolution.

Engaged in the on-site failure analysis at the FATP (Final Assembly, Testing, and Packaging facility) during the DVT (Design VerificationTest) and PVT (Production Verification Test) phases of the NPI (New Product Introduction) process for the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

The primary responsibility was centered around conducting a failure analysis of the Right Button on the Watch Ultra 2, entailing multiple DOEs (Design ofExperiments) involving assembly automation, measurement, Quality control, reliability testing, mechanical structure, CT scan, and acoustic performance, to delve into the root cause and devise potential solutions to mitigate the failure rate. The investigative efforts bore fruit as the root cause was identified and a viable vendor-side solution was proposed driven by quantitative analysis using testing config processed via JMP, serving as a reference for future design enhancements.

Collaborated closely with upstream vendors, internal cross functional teams, and FATP engineers, orchestrating DOEs to validate the identified issues and the effectiveness of the proposed solutions.

Parallel to the failure analysis project, I extended support in the preliminary design of the next-generation button structure in collaboration with other product designers. My responsibility encompassed the drafting of DOE components, employing GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance analysis using the NX software. This initiative led to the successful delivery of drawings for five parts to upstream vendors, thereby laying a robust foundation for the ongoing design evolution.
